Advanced Bone Regeneration at Dr. Jay Lopez, DDS

Your Own Tooth.
Your Own Bone Graft.

A same-visit, chairside technique that transforms a tooth that has to come out into the ideal graft material to rebuild the site.

AUTOGENOUS DENTIN GRAFTING

Dentin grafting equipment

The most biologically active graft is the one you already own.

When a tooth cannot be saved, most of what it is made of — dentin — is remarkably similar to the bone we want to grow back around it. Autogenous dentin grafting uses the KometaBio Smart Dentin Grinder to convert your own extracted tooth into a sterile, particulate graft material in a matter of minutes, all in one visit.

Instead of packing the socket with donor bone or a synthetic filler, we place a graft made entirely from you — right where the tooth used to be.

WHY USE YOUR OWN TOOTH

THREE REASONS DENTIN IS THE IDEAL GRAFT

Same Building Blocks as Bone

Dentin and bone are both made primarily of hydroxyapatite mineral wrapped around type-I collagen. Once ground and processed, dentin behaves like the surrounding bone.

Naturally Growth-Factor Rich

Dentin contains bone-morphogenetic proteins and other growth factors that actively signal your body to lay down new bone at the graft site.

Zero Immune Reaction

Because the material is 100% you, there is no rejection risk, no disease-transmission risk, and no animal or synthetic ingredient to react to.

HOW IT WORKS

FROM TOOTH TO GRAFT — IN ONE VISIT

Extracted tooth prepared for dentin grafting
1

Extract & Prepare

The tooth is removed as gently as possible, then cleaned of any fillings, crowns, decay, and soft tissue.

Tooth being ground and sorted
2

Grind & Sort

The Smart Dentin Grinder processes the tooth into particulate dentin at the 300–1200 ?m size shown by research to support new bone formation.

3

Rinse & Place

A brief cleanser and saline rinse yields a ready-to-place graft that is placed into the socket during the same appointment.

COMPARING YOUR OPTIONS

DENTIN GRAFT VS. THE ALTERNATIVES

GRAFT TYPE SOURCE TRADE-OFFS
Autogenous dentin (your own tooth) You — same visit No rejection risk, no disease transmission, growth-factor rich, and no additional surgical site.
Autogenous bone You — harvested from other areas of the mouth, which can lead to increased discomfort Excellent biology, but adds another surgical site with its own healing time.
Allograft Human donor (processed cadaver bone) Widely used and safe, but relies on donor screening; no living cells or growth factors remain.
Xenograft Bovine (cow) or porcine bone Slow to remodel; some patients prefer to avoid animal-derived materials for personal or religious reasons.
Alloplast / Synthetic Lab-manufactured minerals Consistent supply, but purely a scaffold with no biologic activity of its own.

BEFORE Dental X-ray before grafting

AFTER Dental X-ray after dentin grafting

Follow-up periapical radiograph showing bone fill after autogenous grafting.
