Individual Patient (IP) Appliance® Orthodontics

Dr. Jay Lopez of Tucson is one of the nation’s most highly trained and expert dental clinicians, with the goal of being able to provide for all of his patients’ needs at the highest level, including orthodontics. Dr. Lopez offers several types of orthodontic technology and recommends treatment for each patient in a highly customized way, taking into account the most effective system to meet the patient’s individual goals and needs.

In addition to offering orthodontic treatment using ClearCorrect, Invisalign, and Six Month Braces, Dr. Lopez is a provider of the Individual Patient (IP) Appliance®. This is a special orthodontic appliance that can be customized for faster treatment and has been used by dentists and orthodontists since 2003.

“I am proud to offer what I think is the world’s most efficient and effective way to straighten teeth with straight arch wires,” reports Dr. Lopez. “Each patient is different, and the Individual Patient (IP) Appliance® was the first customized appliance system in the world with an enhanced straight arch wire technique. This means I can optimize the appliance for each patient. This customization results in faster, more consistent treatment results. Tens of thousands of successful cases have been documented all over the world, and I have experienced firsthand its success with patients who needed wire and bracket treatment. Three dimensional modeling software is used in planning the tooth movement of each unique patient with supreme success.”

Why Choose Individual Patient (IP) Orthodontics

IP Orthodontics can be used to realign full arches of teeth and correct almost every type of tooth and jaw misalignment, including crowded teeth and turned teeth. This enhanced system of orthodontics can align teeth into a larger arc, generally moving the front teeth forward as the teeth are straightened. A customized nickel-titanium arch wire with “memory” works with the innovatively designed IP Appliance® bracket to gently reposition teeth and rotate teeth that need to be rotated. This type of orthodontics can be effectively used with teens and adults. It can also be used for an early phase of childhood orthodontics during a period of rapid skeletal growth, referred to as Phase I orthodontic treatment.

Treatment Cost of IP Orthodontics

Treatment fees are similar to that of wearing traditional braces. Since the cost of orthodontics differs significantly by case (based on the severity of your misalignment and the time you will need to be in braces), Dr. Lopez will quote an accurate fee for your specific treatment. This will be quoted before you make your decision, and we will explain our payment options, including maximizing your insurance benefits. We are pleased to offer the Care Credit extended payment plan. Our administrative staff will provide you with full details about your options.

Reduced Discomfort with IP Orthodontics

Like with any type of orthodontic treatment, you can expect to experience some discomfort, especially in the beginning of your treatment. This is a sign that your teeth are moving. Since your braces and wires are customized to you, you will have fewer wire changes and less irritation. With the flexible nickel-titanium arch wires Dr. Lopez uses, there will be light, continual forces helping your teeth move. Your customized appliance will move your teeth at the most biologically ideal pace to be efficiently effective and also reduce discomfort. Most IP Orthodontic patients experience very little discomfort, much like tingling in their teeth.

Faster Treatment with IP Orthodontics

Treatment with the IP Appliance® has been shown to be at least six months faster than traditional wire and bracket orthodontics treatment. From studying the results reported on thousands of cases, Dr. Lopez estimates typical treatment time is substantially less than that of traditional braces. (Traditional braces typically take two years or more.) Keep in mind that treatment time varies significantly by severity, age, compliance to wearing prescribed appliances, and anatomy. Dr. Lopez will consult with you about how long you can expect your treatment to take. Dr. Lopez has trained extensively to diagnose each detail of your case and anticipate your teeth’s movements before treatment even starts. You can expect your customized IP Appliance treatment to be highly efficient and effective.
